Zlatni Rat among the most beautiful beaches in the world

America’s first fashion magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, placed Croatia’s most famous beach Zlatni rat among the most beautiful beaches in the world. Well, that is not much of a surprise as the beach gets recognized by many other world’s famous magazines annually and if you have ever been there, you know why. Zlatni rat is on the list together with other spectacular beaches like the Praia Dona Ana (Portugal), Baia do Sancho (Brazil), Whitehaven Beach (Australia), Navagio Beach (Greece), La Playa Escondida (Mexico), Polihale Beach (Hawaii) and other 24 magnificent beaches around the world.

Zlatni rat beach

Zlatni rat beach is situated on the southern coast of the Island of Brac, less than 2 km from a beautiful town of Bol. There is a lovely promenade under the pine trees shade leading from the town to the beach, along which you can find many other small beaches, restaurants, bars and playgrounds for children. Zlatni rat’s elegance and allure have made it the symbol of both the island and Croatia. This fascinating 500 meters long pebble beach has a unique shape, like a tongue that stretches into the sea. The curiosity about this beach is that it changes its shape and position, depending on the wind, tide and the current. The pine tree grove which borders the beach is home to the remnants of a Roman Villa Rustica, which included a swimming pool. Zlatni rat beach is protected by the government of Croatia as a geomorphological monument.

Zlatni rat waterpark

European Beast Destination, one of the most popular sites for promoting tourism in Europe, also placed Zlatni rat as one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. Other than Zlatni rat, on the list, there is also Podrace beach (Brela) and Stiniva beach (island of Vis). So, don’t you think it’s time to book your next vacation on the island of Brač?

The first underwater winery in Croatia

The grape-growing and wine production tradition in Croatia dates back to Ancient Greek settlers in Dalmatian region, who used amphoras to store their wine. Around 2,500 later, the owners of Edivo Vina winery (Ivo Šegović, Anto Šegovic, Edi Bajurin) came to an idea that will give you another valuable reason to visit Croatia, where they unite history, sea, underwater life, wine, and pure pleasure – they opened the Croatia’s first underwater winery.

Edivo vina souvenir

You have probably already heard about the spectacular city of Dubrovnik, well, just around the corner, there is a small town of Drače, on the Pelješac peninsula, a home to the underwater winery, now opened to visitors. Well, this great news means that now you can finally dive with the personnel of the winery and explore the process of storing their premium wine Plavac Edivo.

underwater winery

“After it has been bottled and placed in a terracotta amphora, it is sunken under the sea to the depth of 18–25 meters. All of them are perfectly stored, laid on its cork and scattered on several locations of Pelješac aquatorium. It ages in bottles for three months, and later on under the sea for one to two years. The result is a perfect thermal condition, creating a beautiful layer of shells, corrals, and algae. Wine does not lose any of the aroma, quality or color. Natural cooling in ideal conditions and a perfect silence improved the quality. Try it and see it yourself. Bring home a unique souvenir from the depths of the Adriatic sea.” – Edivo Vina.

Edivo vina plavac

But if you are not inspired by the idea of going underwater in search of a unique experience, well, you can take a piece of history with you and buy the bottles and amphoras that stood underwater for around two years and are covered with marine growth like seashells, corals, and algae. And of course, when visiting Dalmatia, don’t miss the chance to taste region’s delicious food with a glass of Plavac Edivo.

Soundwave Festival - boat parties

Soundwave in Croatia is reaching its 9th season this summer, now one of the region’s longest running festivals. During this growth, Soundwave has also distilled and refined its ideal of what a festival should be about – it’s the world away from muddy fields, long queues, and over-stuffed events, instead set in a sizzling climate on a truly beautiful and intimate coastal location in Tisno, where long lazy days stretch into more energetic and hedonistic nights.

Having already revealed their most adventurous and ambitious lineup to date, Soundwave is now very proud to announce its series of 13 boat parties taking place in July. The shimmering waters of the immense Adriatic form the backdrop to the festival, with The Garden’s gently sloping site leading all the way to its pristine beach. Whether it’s the incandescent sun’s rays glittering on the surface by day or the luminous face of the moon and stars by night, the voyages are simply an essential element of Soundwave, whose richness and diversity spreads across the soundscape; covering broken beat, reggae, afro to acid jazz, hip-hop, soul, funk, drum and bass and more, the festival is a harmonious and beatific escape which seamlessly merges a sublime holiday and musical escape like no other. The voyages take place during the day and night, and tickets are on sale now.

Plitvice Lakes on National Geographic World’s Most Beautiful Places List

National Geographic, one of the world’s most famous and respected publications listed Plitvice Lakes National Park among “17 of the World’s Most Wild and Beautiful Places  describing it like this: “Deep in central Croatia’s dark, primordial Dinaric Alps, water and rock create the shimmering “land of the falling lakes,” as Plitvice National Park is known. A network of trails and wooden boardwalks entices more than a million visitors a year to explore waterfalls, streams, caves, and interconnected lakes.”

Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of eight Croatian National Parks. It is the most popular National Park in Croatia and it is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The park is famous for its chain of lakes arranged in cascades with 16 lakes divided into two groups, upper and lower lakes divided by a long lake Kozjak. The length of connected lakes is over eight kilometers and the park covers an area of almost 300 square kilometers.

Plitvice lakes

The water exiting from the last lower lake forms the Korana river. Lakes are connected by amazing waterfalls and cascades. The biggest waterfall called “Veliki slap” is 70 m tall. During the centuries the water has flown over the natural limestone, creating these wonderful bigger and smaller lakes by the process of tufa development. The lakes are separated by the natural dams and travertine barriers and over some barriers, you can walk the wooden paths between the lakes and admire this beauty of nature.

16 other stunning places on the list:
Molokai, Hawaii
Jasper National Park, Alberta (Canada)
Mount Roraima, Venezuela
Canyonlands National Park, Utah
Southern Peru
Jujuy Province, Argentina
Faroe Islands, Denmark
Engadine Valley, Switzerland
Nile Valley, Egypt
Samburu District, Kenya
Skeleton Coast, Namibia
